February 2 - March 31, 2015 #Activism: No Justice, No Peace! : a NEW art exhibition at NBT showcasing works of 10 visual artists of color capturing the current activist's voice of today. The gallery will be open to the public starting Monday, February 2, 2015.
February 12 - 16, 2015 HandsUp: 6 Playwrights⎪6 Testaments: a benefit for Unlocking Futures, directed by Jonathan McCrory, The Director of Theatre Arts, making his directorial debut at NBT. HandsUp features monologues written by Nathan James, Nathan Yungerberg, Idris Goodwin, Glenn Gordon, Eric Holmes and Dennis Allen II. Originally commissioned by The New Black Fest, HandsUp is a collection of 6 monologues written in response to Ferguson and the state of the black male in America. Betty's Daughter Arts Collaborative will spearhead a symposium, Liberty vs Liberation February 16, 2015 after the 2:00pm show.
February 9 and 23, 2015 Keep Soul Alive Mondays: NBT is hosting two reading within this series that will showcase the works of two Black playwrights: Azure Osborne Lee and Nia Witherspoon . The readings will take place at 7:30 pm.
February 25 - March 1, 2015 HER PORTMANTEAU (Workshop Production): Written by Mfoniso Udofia and directed by Victor Maog. This play tells the story of legacy and forgiveness. Trapped within a small New York apartment, Matriarch Abasiama Ufot and her two eldest children must construct a new definition for their family. As vaults are opened and old pains are re-lived, three women from three different generations, attempt to build the bridge across very different worlds. This piece was developed through NBT’s I Am Soul : Playwright Residency program.
