Fredrica L. Teer (December 2, 1935 - November 6, 1979)
Executive Director (1973-1978)
Fredrica Lila Teer had a vision for humanity, which set her apart from most of her contemporaries. She was an institution builder, a community organizer and humanitarian who worked tirelessly to personally train and empower people of African descent to become leaders in their own communities.

It was her dream to destroy the myth that performers could not learn and master the ability to be effective managers, administrators of programs and confident producers in the business world. Under her guidance as Executive Director, NBT developed into a multi-faceted creative factory of willing workers: efficient, responsible, loving and totally able to produce quality programs for the people it joyously serves and so to Fredrica, we are eternally grateful. Her record of accomplishments and projects clearly demonstrate the level of excellence she brought to the institution.

She served as Regional Director of the West Coast Congress of Racial Equality, as Facilitator in the General Learning Corporation, as Instructor at the School of Social Welfare and University of California's Berkeley Department of Sociology, and as teacher in the Peace Corps Community Development Program in Liberia.

Her professional know-how was integral to the success of the 'Free Breakfast Program for Children' in Oakland, California and to the Historic March on Washington in 1963 when she served as Bay Area Deputy Director.

As a force in the Human Growth and Potential Movement, Fredrica participated as a group leader at the Free University of Berlin, as a consultant to the Humanistic Growth Institute, Honolulu, Hawaii, and as a technical assistant to the Kings County New York Counseling Service. She was on the Advisory Board of EST (Erhard Seminar Training).

She obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, and a Masters of Social Work from Atlanta University and participated in the Doctorial program at Berkeley
